Audits

  1. Rate of completion mastectomy in Belfast city hospital in 5 years.
  2. US-guided fine needle aspiration vs. coarse needle biopsy of thyroid nodules Conclusion: no significant difference in diagnostic accuracy of thyroid nodules.
  3. Mortality vs. consultant presence for laparotomies (Performed out of hours). Conclusion: Consultant is present for significantly fewer emergencies or out of hour’s cases however There was no significant difference between presence and absence of the consultant in terms of mortality.
  4. Adequacy of excision of non-melanotic skin cancers. Conclusion: incomplete excision rate 25% failed to meet literature standard 6-20%.
  5. Would measurement of C - reactive protein reduce the negative exploration for acute appendicitis?
  6. Enhanced versus standard recovery pathway in colorectal surgery presented at Saudi colorectal forum symposium 2013

  • Prospective randomized single blind study to compare two methods of ingestion of Fleet  Phosphor-Soda for bowel preparation for colonoscopy Primary results presented on 16/5/03 at the annual meeting of Irish Association of Coloproctology, Poster presented at 60th Annual Meeting, ASGE Meeting, and DDW in USA on     15/5/2004 
  •  Study of Operative vs. Non Operative Approaches for the Treatment of Obstructive Jaundice.  Non-operative management has become an alternative to surgery e.g. ERCP for CBD stones, balloon Dilatation for strictures or stenting. For inoperable obstructive jaundice surgery it is reserved for Unsuccessful non-operative approach. This work was submitted for fulfillment of my master’s degree in Surgery from Ain Shams University in 1992

optimum patient care start with team working in the ward involving not only medical team but also nursing staff, physiotherapist, pharmacists, secretaries and porters

attending MDT means team consultations for care patient result in the best possible decision in patient care

in theatre I know my limits and ask for advise from more senior surgeons if needed in the particular specialties
